Trade Sheary for pick. Use Pick to Dump Hunwick if needed. Sign/trade for a 4/5 defeneman and a 2/3 lw who fits our system. If the price is right get Kunitz for 4th line and please dear god get rid of Simon. He wouldnt be as bad if he was only a 4th liner, but his presence on the team scares me he will be used as a top 6 for stretches. |

I can't see Kessel being traded until after the draft and opening of free agency. The Pens will be, appropriately, asking for alot. There are plenty of UFAs to sign where you don't lose assets.
I think the Pens will have to wait for the smoke to clear there before seeing an actual trade that would provide them value.
PS-I'm not onboard with trading him, but not my call. |

Are there plenty? It was my understanding it was JVR and thats it. He will get a 7x7 deal IMO. In that case id rather have kessel.
That being said, Im for them mixing things up to get better. I think Sully is the weakest link though. |

The Kessel trade rumors are a load of bs created by the sports media (fake news). Even if the team wanted to trade him, which doesn't make any sense considering that he was one of the team's best players for most the season, it would be almost impossible to get a fair return considering the amount and length of his contract.
The weakest links among the top three line forwards this past season were Hagelin and Sheary. While trading them would be nice, trades always require finding a team willing to make the trade and it might be difficult in their cases. Another thing to consider is that players who have a bad season often have a "bounce-back" season the following one. |

So you're essentially trading Sheary to not have Hunwick? I think you can do better than that.
I'd think you could move something like Hunwick and a 3rd to Buffalo for some AHL player and a 5th, or something along those lines, and then get an actual NHL return for Sheary if you want to. |

Imagine is we could have moved some sort of Boedker-like asset and picked up Hoffman...
I don’t care about his crazy a$$ girlfriend. It’s nothing Pens players haven’t heard before from Flyers fans... |

made no sense for EDM to do that, they could have buried his contract at no cap hit in the AHL. Instead they try to buy him out that will cost like 300k in cap...lol |

He said JVR not JT.
JVR can't get 8 years unless it's the Leafs. Same as JT. 8 years only with the Isles.
I also believe JVR will get 7 x 7 and it's too much. Keep Kessel.
I think the Pens are in a good spot to be competitive next year with keeping pretty much the same team. |

Wouldn't mind them using picks to move Hunwick and make a run at De Haan with that extra cap space. |

I agree. Only player I care if I see back (in a bad way) is Hunwick but even then I didnt mind the guy before the concussion last year. He might be able to get back to that. Im not down with trading Sheary for scraps because I think at only 3M, with his versatility, he has good value. |

The Pens are ok for a couple years in terms of cap space. The problem lies more in all of their stars aging together. Crosby, Malkin, Kessel and Letang, that is good for +$32M of the $80M cap which will be in decline in the coming years.
This is why at least one of Kessel or Letang will get moved this year and the other will probably go next year. You could make the case for moving both this year.
Keep in mind that at this moment, Kessel has the highest trade value he will ever have. Letang might not but he is a RHD who can play a ton of minutes, he still has big value around the league.

Derick Brassard at 3.0M is a great value and a big reason why the Penguins had to part with the assets they did. - Ryan_Wilson
Hummm. Cap friendly still has his cap hit at 5 mil but his actual salary is 3.5 mil.
I don't see how he has a cap hit of 3 mil. Ottawa didn't retain $$ on his contract.,
Curious to know how you got 3mil cap hit for him.
edit: I see that Ottawa did retain 2mil on his contract. |

Vegas retained the 2 million on his cap as part of the Reaves trade

The max cap will be more and more each year after this one. Always rises. That's not changing with further expansion coming. |

De Haan will likely get ...what...$4-5M?
Hee's a good FA target but that's awfully steep for a cash strapped team that would ideally be looking a RHD.
Sign De Haan and trade Maatta for a really good young LW? |

No to trading Määttä. I'd be willing to trade Letang and invest in our wings and getting a guy like Ristolainen...but again I like Letang a lot and hope for an improvement. |

LA had shown interest in Jeff Skinner but priority for now is Kovalchuk. Told that Pittsburgh and St. Louis have also talked to Carolina about Skinner |

Good player but is always injuried right? Kovalchuk must become a Pen. Geno is already practicing with him lol |
